Risk and long-term liabilities of subseabed carbon sequestration

On Thursday 15 January 2026, EMB will host its 56th Third Thursday Science Webinar featuring Gabriela Arguello who will present on the topic of "Risks and long-term liabilities of subseabed carbon sequestration".

Dr. Gabriela Argüello is an Associate Senior Lecturer in Environmental Law and a Research Fellow funded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities. She works on the law of the sea and marine governance, with a focus on how countries, industries, and communities shape the future of our oceans. She holds an LLD in Maritime and Transport Law from the University of Gothenburg and a Master’s in Maritime Law from Lund University. Her research covers topics such as ocean governance, ship pollution, ship recycling, Arctic environmental issues, and the offshore energy transition. She was a member of the EMB working group on 'Monitoring, Reporting and Verification for marine Carbon Dioxide Removal'.
