Stakeholder Workshop on Science-Policy Interfaces to support MSFD environmental policy (12 February 2014, Brussels)

stages ws feb 2014Today, marine stakeholders are gathering in Brussels to discuss science-policy interfaces (SPI) supporting implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The workshop is being organized by the FP7 STAGES project and includes stakeholders from across marine sectors, representing multiple geographical scales. The workshop, led by the European Marine Board, will focus on MSFD knowledge management and choosing the right SPI mechanisms to enhance the existing SPI capacity. This work builds on an extensive on-line stakeholder consultation on MSFD science-policy interfaces launched by the STAGES project in 2013. Results from the survey and workshop will be taken forward by STAGES to develop a proposal for an effective long-term European Science-Policy Platform to channel knowledge from European science and technology to relevant MSFD users. Final results will be published as a position paper for the European Commission and presented at the STAGES Final Conference (Q3; 2014).
