SURIMI aims to provide the world with easy-to-use and freely available tools that draw on expert fisheries dynamics models to better understand the effects of fisheries management interventions. Such expert models are rarely used outside the scientific realm despite their huge societal potential. SURIMI therefore aims to make them more easily accessible to non-experts. The SURIMI online Toolbox, which will allow users to interact with the models, will be a user-friendly, interactive, web-based platform designed to connect science and policy, allowing users to test “what-if” scenarios. It will translate the complex model outputs into visual dashboards, including maps and charts. The SURIMI Toolbox will also be integrated into the EU Digital Twin Ocean.
Stakeholder engagement is a key component of the project to ensure the SURIMI Toolbox is of maximum use to users. The Joint SURIMI - Advisory Councils (ACs) workshop was held in November 2025. In total, 49 individuals participated in the workshop, including 39 Advisory Council members and 10 SURIMI Consortium members. Simultaneous interpretation into Spanish, French and English was available throughout the workshop. The objectives of the workshop were to introduce the SURIMI project and the scientific models to participants, to collect their input to support the development and design of the online tool, and to answer any questions. The workshop was held as a half-day online event and the SURIMI team obtained valuable feedback that will guide the future design of the tools.
This report provides a detailed description of the workshop methodology and findings.
