New EMBracing the Ocean artists-in-residence

We're delighted to announce the newly selected artists-in-residence for the 2026 - 2027 edition of the EMBracing the Ocean programme!

Jamie Wardrop is a Glasgow-based artist, visual designer and creative technologist. His practice combines projection, animation, live visuals and digital tools to create atmospheric, communal experiences that explore ecology, place and environmental change. For his EMBracing the Ocean project he will create an immersive, multi-projection cinema experience inside a structure that echoes a salmon farm cage, inviting audiences to see the world from the salmon’s perspective. Jamie will collaborate with Professor Martin Llewellyn from the University of Glasgow to bridge the gap between public perception and the realities of farmed salmon, in a neutral manner balancing scientific and industry insights.

Elisabeth Kihlstrom is a Vienna-based artist working across weaving, film, performance, and installation. Her EMBracing the Ocean project "L'oro del Mare" combines fieldwork, scientific collaboration, artisanal knowledge, and archival research to develop a film exploring the Mediterranean fan mussel, Pinna nobilis, as both a biological organism and a historical site. For millennia, the Pinna nobilis, was prized for its golden sea silk, but is today facing mass mortality. The project is being developed with collaborators Professor Mariachiara Chiantore, University of Genova, and Associate Professor Daria Sanna, University of Sassari.

Congratulations, and we look forward to supporting your projects over the coming year.

Stay up to date on the progress of their work here.
