New EMB Working Group on Coastal Resilience Kicks Off

On 29 January and 1 February 2021, the new EMB Working Group on Coastal Resilience met for the first time during the kick-off meeting held online. The meeting was chaired by Sebastian Villasante (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Kristin Richter (NORCE Norwegian Research Centre & Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, Norway).

The Working Group members are from diverse academic backgrounds with expertise including nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, hydrodynamics, sea-level rise, coastal management, and political science. The group shared ideas on how to ensure European coasts are ecologically, socially, and economically resilient so that they can contribute to meeting global sustainability goals in light of increasing threats from climate change, pollution, and human impacts. They will work towards a Position Paper, which is planned for publication in 2022.
