Valuing Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management in Malta: A Discrete Choice Experiment to Elicit Preferences and Willingness to Pay

On Thursday 21 August 2025, EMB will host its 51st Third Thursday Science Webinar featuring Gilmour Camilleri who will present on the topic of "Valuing Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management in Malta: A Discrete Choice Experiment to Elicit Preferences and Willingness to Pay".

 

Gilmour Camilleri is a graduate of the Universities of Nottingham and Malta and currently serves as Chief Economist at the Malta Fiscal Advisory Council. Prior to this, he was Director for Communications, Energy, Transport, and Financial Services at the Office for Competition within the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority. He also spent over six years as an Economist at the Economic Policy Department within the Ministry for Finance of Malta, where he led the macroeconomic modelling and forecasting team and contributed to policy-oriented research in labour market theory, social policy, and industrial relations.

Gilmour is a Visiting Lecturer at both the Department of Economics and the Centre for Labour Studies at the University of Malta. His teaching portfolio includes Mathematical Economics, Growth Economics, Labour Economics, and Applied Macroeconomics. His research interests span resource and marine economics, competition and industrial economics, structural macroeconometric modelling, policy analysis, and applied econometrics and forecasting. He has contributed to various national and international research projects, including work for Eurofound, the Malta Arts Council, the European Capital of Culture, and the Environment and Resources Authority.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in Economics at the University of Malta.
